The Annenberg Foundation has long worked on strengthening and expanding access to education in the U.S. — from establishing schools for communication and journalism at the University of Pennsylvania in 1958 and the University of Southern California in 1971, to supporting many education-focused programs today.

Elevating Equitable Education

Walter H. Annenberg contributed $50 million to the United Negro College Fund in 1990 — the largest act of philanthropy in the interest and history of black colleges. Annenberg’s support was the lead contribution in fundraising for the then-41 member institutions’ capital expenses, scholarships, curriculum and faculty development and more. Learn More

Wallis Annenberg, USC’s longest serving trustee, helps nurture next-generation communicators across all sectors through her support of USC Annenberg in Los Angeles. She funded the USC Capital Campus, set to open in 2025 at the epicenter of media, communications and public discourse in Washington, D.C.

Supported by a $50 million lead gift from the Annenberg Foundation, the future-focused Wallis Annenberg Hall opened in 2014 to faculty, students and staff who helped design its spaces and who are reshaping how we access and engage with information. Learn More
