Spotlight: Reading Partners Los Angeles

The mission of Reading Partners Los Angeles is to empower low-income elementary students to reach their full potential by ensuring they have the foundational reading skills necessary for academic, professional, and life success. Since 2008, volunteers have worked one-on-one with students to increase reading skills. Reading Partners targets K-2nd grade children who have not mastered basic reading skills. In addition, it works with third-and fourth- graders reading up to two-and-a-half years behind grade level in order to ensure as many students as possible are reaching proficiency by the end of fourth grade. Reading Partners Los Angeles currently serves 13 Title 1 elementary schools in Pasadena, Lawndale, and Mid-City, and reaches over 800 students a year.
