Nikki Sixx and Kristine McKenna at the Annenberg Space For Photography

As a member of Mötley Crüe, Nikki Sixx is a Grammy-nominated musician with over 80 million album sales to date. He is a New York Times bestselling author, having written three books: The Heroin DiariesThe Dirt (written with his Mötley Crüe bandmates) and This Is Gonna Hurt: Photography and Life Through the Distorted Lens of Nikki Sixx.

This Is Gonna Hurt is an exploration of beauty, its perception and how we view ourselves based upon Sixx’s journals and, for the first time in print, his photographs. These observations and photographs will be the focus of the lecture. A top rock album release from his band, Sixx:A.M – also entitled This Is Gonna Hurt – is the accompanying CD soundtrack to the book.

Kristine McKenna is a widely published critic and journalist who wrote for the Los Angeles Times from 1977 through 1998. Her profiles and criticism have appeared in Artforum, The New York Times, Artnews, Vanity Fair, The Washington Post and Rolling Stone. McKenna recently edited The Collected Writing of Richard Prince, which will be published this fall.

Due to the high interest in this event, we are making several changes to our normal IRIS Nights procedures:

  • Tickets will be limited to one per person.
  • There will be no standby list for this lecture. People who do not have a confirmed reservation will be turned away.
  • Doors will close promptly at 6:30 pm.  Late-comers will not be admitted.
  • Pre-signed books from Sixx will be available for purchase at the lecture. There will be no on-site signings/autographs.
  • Photography is not permitted inside the Space for Photography.

Tickets for this event will be released on Wednesday, August 17 at 12 noon and Thursday, August 18 at 9:30 am. Once tickets are released, you may register by clicking here. Note that our lectures tend to fill up quickly.
